On July 23, 2024, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia in Sydney transformed into a vibrant hub of innovation and networking as it hosted Events Uncovered, presented by Spice. Attended by event planners, industry leaders, hotel and hospitality providers, and entertainment professionals, the event was an overwhelming success, solidifying its reputation as the must-attend gathering of the year.

A day of learning and inspiration

The day kicked off with the highly anticipated Spice Knowledge Sessions, held in the MCA Australia’s Harbourside Room and Quayside Room. The sessions featured a lineup of the industry’s brightest minds, sharing their insights on a wide range of topics relevant to today’s event professionals. The keynote session, delivered by Kieran Flanagan and Dan Gregory, co-founders of The Behaviour Report, set the tone for the day. Their session, “Let us edu-tain you,” captivated the audience with practical tips on staying creative and motivated, even under pressure.

Unveiling the future of events

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to explore the free exhibitor showcase in the MCA Australia’s ground-floor Foundation Hall. Leading venues and suppliers showcased the latest trends, products, and services, providing a glimpse into the future of event planning. Exhibitors included many of our venue partners and multiple experience and entertainment providers, each presenting innovative solutions to enhance the event experience.

Expert insights

The Spice Knowledge Sessions also featured a series of informative presentations and case studies. Topics ranged from combatting event planner burnout and leveraging AI innovations to sustainability practices and crisis management. Industry veterans discussed the future of the events sector, while sessions on event marketing offered practical strategies for creating memorable experiences on a budget.

Prominent speakers included Janene Wardrop from the International College of Management, Sydney; Paul Hutton of Hilton; Shelly McElroy of Dream Culture; and many others. Their expertise and real-world insights provided valuable takeaways for all attendees.

Enhancing multi-sensory experiences in event design

Encore’s own Julz Partington, Creative Director, Encore APAC took to the stage with a panel of other experts including Bella Gregory – General Manager, Solution Entertainment, Steffanie D’Alberto – Creative Director, The Big Group and Cesar Ramirez – Managing Director, SixthSense Experiences.

The panel facilitated by Gavin Dennett, Editor, Spice Magazine shared their secrets to elevating the sensory journey for guests. From setting the mood through ambient soundscapes, live music and audiovisual brilliance, to tactile art installations and culinary flavours and scents that wow, they explored interactive ideas will stimulate the senses.

Uncovered After Dark: An unforgettable celebration of our industry

As the sun set over Sydney Harbour, the excitement continued into the evening with Uncovered After Dark. The Harbourside Room was transformed for an evening of networking, cocktails, and live entertainment including harp percussion duo, a wildly entertaining singer, trumpet player and DJ trio, and dancing troop getting everyone onto the dance floor. The high-note of the evening was the elegant and superb opera singer on the outdoor terrace stage, with breathtaking view of the harbour bridge and opera house as the backdrop. Partygoers enjoyed a vibrant atmosphere, mingling with industry peers while soaking in the stunning views.

The combination of cutting-edge knowledge sessions, a dynamic exhibitor showcase, amazing event technologies and a vibrant evening celebration certainly delivered.
